I am soon moving to Ontario from Helsinki. I would like to know exactly what papers are needed to get Ontario Driving Licence. I will be moving for a longer time.
I have following papers with me:
1.Finnish Driving Licence
2.Int. Driving Licence (Issued in Finland)
3.My driving record (paper from Traffi)
Is it necessary to translate Finnish Driving Licence as well?
Look forward to getting your suggestion.
Hi! In addition to those documents you listed, bring also a print-out from ake.fi that explains the differences between license classes of Finnish driver's licenses in English or French (which kind of vehicles you are allowed to drive with a B license for example). That way I didn't have to get my Driver's License translated. The rest depends on your driving experience:
See from "When you can't exchange" and down.
Thank you Hanna for this information.
I forgot, get also a driving record information transcript at AKE in English or French.
I have that with me (No. 3 in my list).
By the way, how long this paper remains valid? 3 months?
Oops yes it is. Sorry, I have no idea how long the paper is valid.
Once you show them your Finnish driving license and the Traffi certificate, you will be allowed to take the theory test. If you pass then you'll get the G1 license. The good thing is that you can then go for the full G license test without having to wait or take the G2 test. But the catch is that you have only one shot so if you don't pass then you will have to take the G2 first and then retake the G. I recommend you take driving lessons that prepare you for the exam, I personally found driving here so much different than Finland and can be confusing.
