CBC to go off the air in Finland????? Eikä...
As some of you at least know, the CBC is available in English via Yleisradio (FM in Helsinki, DVB audio in the rest of the country) on weekend nights at midgnight, with the World at Six at 00.00 and the first half hour of As it Happens on the half hour. NPR takes over at one am.
Now, with the cutbacks enforced by the powers-that-be in Ottawa the CBC international service is likely to go off the air on satellite.
I take this somewhat seriously also on the grounds that I was the person who brought CBC to Finland in 1997. Since then the weeknightly hour has been heard. There was an afternoon slot earlier - in French - but that we had to give up.
There is an RCI Actiion Committee on Facebook as well as an international radio group. Consider taking a stand in favour of the CBC being available in FInland.
Of course, it would continue on the internet, but listening on FM or on your TV is better than using a laptop, and free.
